Acne Treatments once or twice a day, gently wash your skin with a mild, nonmedicated un-scented soap, then rinse with cool water, and lightly pat dry. Try to avoid hard scrubbing or using grains or very abrasive pads as they will irritate your skin and worsen your acne more. If you have very oily skin, try wiping it gently with a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel. Only use water based, unscented makeup or cosmetics.
Generaly persistent mild to moderate acne can be controlled with nonprescription drugs, like 2.5 or 5 percent strength benzoyl peroxide gel, lotion, or ointments. You should start with a nightly application and after a week add a morning application also. Generally some improvement should occur within 3 weeks; if not, try a stronger solution such as 10 percent solution.
If needed a dermatologist may prescribe a topical medication like tretinoin wich is derived from vitamin A; an antibiotic, in either topical or in pill form, or try a potent oral drug like Isotrretinoin (accutane) but this is usually reserved for severe or cystic acne cases.
Eat Plenty Of:
. Fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamins A and C.
. Whole grains and cereals for vitamins B and zinc.
. Lean meats and poultry, fish for zinc.
Definately Avoid:
. Kelp supplements.
. Iodized salt.
. High doses of B vitamins.
Remember that almost everyone at some time experiences an occasional flare up of some level of acne usall just a flare up of a few blackheads and or pimples and less often more serious deep scarring cysts. Also remeber that acne can occur at any age., but it is most prevalent in teens and during adolescence. Acne affects about 85 percent of all teenagers at various degrees of intensity.
Diet and lifestyle factors such as cleanliness and sexual activity, Do Not Cause Acne. In very rare cases, sensitivity to a certain food may acerbate existing acne cases. The exception is Kelp, a seaweed sold as a dietary supplement or salt replacement; it can cause severe cystic acne. Iodized salt can also bring on acne flareups.
Puberty and hormones are responsible for most acne. A sudden surge of androgens (male sex hormones) occur during puberty and this starts the skins oil glands to enlarge and increase the production of the oily substance (sebum) that lubricates our skin. Boys are more affected than girls generally with acne. But even girls find acne flares up during hormonal changes. Also severe acne seems to run in families, heredity is suspected as playing a role in causing Acne.
HERBS: Eliminate Toxins.
Some herbal remedies, both Chinese and Western, can help naturally cure acne and prevent it recurring by clening the lymphatic system. A formula that includes equal parts of the tincture of nine herbs....red clover, burdock, yellow dock, dang gui, milk thistle, cleavers, schisandra, ehchinacea and licorice.
Bring 1 quart of water to the boil and add 1 ounce of combined tinctures. Turn off the stove and let steep for 30 minutes. Drink 2 cups a day for up to 3 months. Then you can refrigerate the remaining portion for up to a week.
This formula along with lymphatic cleansers also contains herbs that support the liver, nourish the blood and help fight infections these are all helpful in fighting, healing acne.
HYDROTHERPY: A Herbal Steam Both For The Face.
Just a weekly steam bath for your face can open and drain all your pores. Thus helping to heal, cure acne plus prevents new acne outbreaks, By adding the herb yarrow to the steaming water is very healing to your face and skin. Now just use 1 teaspoon of loose tea or a tea bag will do nicely, prepare an 8 ounce cup of yarrow tea, steep for about 30 minutes and add it to a basin of steaming water. Now just lean over the basin for 5 to 10 minutes, try holding a towel over your head to keep the steam on the face. Keep your face close enough to feel it about 12 inches away should do it, but not too close so it burns.
When your acne is severe, try to use this steam bath at least 2 or 3 times per week. Also using this method should hep to prevent any further acne breakouts.
