ADHD
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also commonly called ADHD is a neurobehavioral problem. It is commonly diagnosed in children, but over the past decade it has been increasingly diagnosed in adults too. People affected by ADHD have a poor ability to attend to a task and are overactive and have poor impulse control and forgetfulness. Although there are medications for this disease and symptoms, these medications do not cure them but only control the symptoms.
There are better natural ways for adults to deal with the symptoms of ADHD. Doctors look for the cause of the person's distractions, which could be anxiety, lack of confidence, a brain injury, and other factors. Some also believe that diet can hold the key to these symptoms.
FOOD: (eat every 2 hours)
Aggression, nervousness, agitation, anxiety, these are typical ADHD symptoms and are also syptoms of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar.
Blood sugar, or glucose, is the body's primary fuel and low blood sugar is the most significant problem found in people with symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
There is an easy way to avoid low blood sugar and help clear up the symptoms. It's simple never let yourself get hungry. Always carry food with you and eat something every 2 hours. By eating more often during the day, you keep your blood sugar on an even level. Be sure to include some protein with each meal and snack it will break down slowly maintaining blood sugar levels. Good for protein foods include chicken, turkey, fish, low-fat dairy products, beans and nuts and seeds.
SUGAR:
High sugar foods like candy, cake, pie and soft drinks pour excess glucose into your blood, which triggers the release of insulin, a hormone that lowers glucose in your blood. So eating a lot of sugar actually ends up lowering blood sugar.
If you have ADHD you should eliminate refined carbohydrates from your diet. That means not only sugar but also white flour, which quikly turns to glucose.
MULTIVITAMIN_MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS:
Vitamins and minerals improve the biochemistry of the body and the brain so that your nervous system and every other system can work as nature intended.
Take a high-potency nutritional supplement only with the approval and supervision of your doctor. Look for a multivitamin mineral supplement that contains the following levels of nutrients.
* Thiamin: 25 milligrams
* Vitamin B6: 100 milligrams
* Pantothenic acid: 50 milligrams
* Beta-carotene: 15 milligrams
* Folic acid: 400 micrograms
* Vitamin C: 1,000 milligrams
* Vitamin E: 400 international units
* Calcium: 500 to 1,000 milligrams
* Magnesium: 100 to 400 milligrams
* Zinc: 15 milligrams
MAGNESIUM:
Extra magnesium more than what is in most multivitamin mineral supplements will help to calm ADHD symptoms, recommended 500 milligrams per day.
FATTY ACIDS: (Food For The Brain)
Supplementing your diet with fatty acids has been shown to help brain cells function better. Lso can reduce syptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. 500 milligrams a day of evening primrose oil and 3 teaspoons a day of flaxseed oil both of which are rich in fatty acids.
