The human foot is a great place for fungus especially tinea pedis, which causes athlete's foot. The space between the toes is small, dark, damp and too stuffy a perfect enviroment for athlete's foot. Hot, red, burning, itchy, flaking, peeling skin that are the symptoms of this troublesome condition.
Getting rid of athlete's foot is not easy. The fungus can penetrate the skin deep, too deep for topical fungus killing medicines to work quickly and easily. Even after weeks or months of daily treatment, just when you think the fungus is gone, it can suddenly come back.
People who are prone to athlete's foot, should never wear the same pair of shoes 2 days in a row, and you should change your socks during the day especially if your feet sweat. Here are some home remedies for athletes foot, to help you get comfortably back on your feet.
YOGURT:
Just dabbing regular plain yogurt on the infected areas of your feet can help reduce the symptoms of athlete's foot. The yogurt is soothing to the skin, and you can apply it as often as you wish for relief.
GARLIC (OIL):
Just rub two to three drops of garlic oil on the affected areas of your feet. This treatment works extremely well to kill athlete's foot fungus, it is absorbed into the skin where the fungus has penetrated.
Don't use this treatment if you have a romantic evening planned. The oil is absorbed into the bloodstream, so you'll have a garlic odor on your breath about 30 minutes after you apply the oil.
It is recommended using the oil before bedtime. Pierce two or three capsules, squeeze the oil onto the fungus and rub it into the skin. Put on a pair of socks so the oil does not get on your sheets. Use this treatment each night for 2 to 4 weeks.
GARLIC (RAW):
Garlic is one of the stongest antifungal herbs. The raw form is the most effective, because none of the fungus killing allicin, the most active ingredient in the herb is removed by the processing.
It is recommended eating four small cloves once a day and drinking lots of water 12 to 16 ounces to help reduce stomach upset. Continue for 4 to 6 months or untill you see results. Just be aware that treating yourself with garlic may bother some others around you, since the garlic odor will permeate your whole body.
If you or your family can not handle the raw cloves, take the herb in capsule form, usoing four to eight capsules a day in three seperate doses, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Continue this for 4 to 5 months, or as long as you like, to ward off infection.
IMUNITY BOOSTERS:
If you have recurring athlete's foot, it may be because your immune system is not strong enough to fight it off once and for all.
Over the counter remedies for athlete's may work, but they don't nourish or heal the skin that's been infected by fungal infection. It is recommended to use a natural mixture of a herb and two essential oils. It not only kills the fungus but also soothes and heals your skin.
Combine 2 teaspoons of tincture of benzoin, made from the resin of a tree grown in the tropics, with 5 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of thyme essential oil.
The tincture of benzoin helps heal the fungal infection, reduces redness and the burning, and dries skin that is too moist. Lavender essential oil also helps heal skin, and thyme essential oil is a powerful antifungal.
Each evening before bedtime, massage the mixture into the area of the infection and then over the entire foot. Allow your feet to dry for 3 to 5 minutes before walking around or going to bed. The mixture is thin and watery, you may want to use a blow dryer on low setting to hurry this up.
A mild case of athlete's foot should heal in 2 or 3 months, while a more severe case could take 56 months to heal.
Avoid refined sugar it is a toxin for the immune system, and eating too many sweets and other sugar rich foods allows athlete's foot fungus to flourish.
