The home remedies in this article are intended for the treatment of blisters caused by friction, and blisters from minor burns. In cases of and open blister that becomes infected, red, tender and oozing yellow material see your doctor emediately.
Every one will or has run into blisters caused by friction, such as to long using the rake, shovel, hoe or many others, plus minor burns from just touching a hot pot or the oven rack can be enough to cause this burn and then the blister.
The blister is a small area of broken cells where leaking fluid has pooled and seperated the outer layer of skin from the underlying tissue. Now the best thing you can do is to leave it intact, because the broken blister is more likely to be infected and it also is more painful. If you want to help nature take it's course here are a few alternative natural remedies.
Lavender Essential Oil:
The essential oil of lavender is thought to regenerate skin cells, speeding healing from a blister. Lavender is one of the few essential oils that you can apply directly to the skin without diluting it in a carrier oil. Just put afew drops of pure oil on the blister, then cover it with an adhesive bandage. Apply the oil two or three times a day until blister is healed.
Horse Chestnut:
The herb horse chestnut will help relieve the collection of fluid in a blister. Add 1 teaspoon of horse chestnut tincture to 1 cup of cool water, then soak a clean cloth in the liquid and place it over the blister for 20 minutes. Do this 2 or 3 times a day until blister is emptied of fluid.
Hydrotherapy:
Putting cool washcloths on the area can help relieve the pain, itching or any discomfort from the blister. Use as often as needed for comfort.
Dandelion:
The sap of dandelion stems is loaded with vitamin A, which can speed healing of a blister. If you have dandelions in your yard that have not been sprayed with pesticides, pick a few, split the stems, put the white, milky juice on the blister, and cover it with abandage. Reapply once a day till the blister is healed. Some people are sensitive to the juice, so if you feel any itching or discomfort wash the juice off emmediately.
Calendula:
Use calendula if the blister breaks, it will help the skin heal more quickly if put on the area. You can either buy calendula oil in a health food store or get calendula tincture and mix 1 part tincture with 10 parts distilled water. Apply once or twice a day, covering the blister with a bandage until the blister heals.
