Cancer is a complex and life threatening disease that needs professional medical treatment. Some alternative remedies might actually worsen cancer if they are not applied appropriately. Therefore, apply the alternative remedies discussed in this chapter only as part of a cancer treatment program that is guided and monitored by a certified physician who is experienced in cancer care and alternative medicine. If you are being treated by a conventional doctor, check with him before changing or stopping any conventional medical treatments or medications, and keep all of your physicians and or alternative practioners informed of all treatments that you are recieving.
Medical "standard care" often used for Stage 1 or Stage 2 breast cancer (the two earliest stages of the disease) is lumpectomy, or surgical removal of the tumor; followed by radiation and chemotherapy.
Surgery is generally a good idea for women diagnosed with Stage 1 or Stage 2 breast cancer. It is also believed that those who use alternative therapy alone after surgery, rather than combining alternative therapies with radiation and chemotherapy, may have a longer survival time.
Obviously the choice to have conventional or alternative treatment (or both) after surgery is one that each woman with breast cancer will have to evaluate for herself.
Alternative programs include lifestyle changes; dietaryrecommendations that are individualized according to a persons metabolic type; oral nutrional supplements such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, fatty acids, herbs and concentrated foods; a program of injections of natural anti-cancer substances such as high doses of vitamin C; detoxification procedures; an exercise program; stress management; body energy techniques such as acupuncture; body manipulative therapies; homeopathy; and others. Life-style Changes Can Extend Life for Women with Breast Cancer.
You have been diagnsed with breast cancer , a potentially fatal disease. That's daunting enough. But now you also have to consider all of your treatment options for removing the tumor and preventing a recurrence; mastectomy, lumpectomy, and axillary node dissection; radiation therapy, chemotherapy. and hormone therapy.
Along with these choices, however, there is one that can keep you alive longer than the average person diagnosed with breast cancer
A change in lifestyle is the only factor that has been scientifically proven to extend the average life span of women with breast cancer.
Why is life-style so important? A change in lifestyle stops feeding the tumor and boosts the immune system so that it can more effectively fight the cancer. The most important change is eliminating the foods that contribute to 40 to 60 percent of all breast cancer.
FOOD:
Stop Eating Red Meat and Dairy Products.
More than a hundred scientific studies indicate that saturated fat, the kind in red meat and dairy products, can increase the risk of cancer.
The saturated fat found in red meat and dairy products feeds a tumor. If you get rid of that fat from the diet and you will get rid of most of it by cutting out beef, pork, lamb, veal, and dairy products you will retard the rate at which a tumor grows and possibly stop it's growth.
All dairy products, even those such as nonfat milk, contain potential tumor-promoting growth hormones that are fed to cows to improve their milk production. The dairy industry uses many such hormones that promote the growth of breast cancer cells in a labratory setting.
Additionally, it is at least theoretically possible that bovine papillomavirus shed from udders of milk cows could have a tumor promoting effect in human breast tissue. This virus is widespread in cows and is closely related to the human papillomavirus that is linked to cervical cancer in humans. It is theorized that the cause of the rapidly rising rate of breast cancer in Western countries may be the increasing consumption of dairy products. For this reason, it is advised to eliinate dairy products from your diet and take a daily 1,500 milligram calcium supplement that contains vitamin D.
FOOD:
Don't Feed Your Tumor Sugar,
Whether the sugar you eat is sucrose (refined white sugar) or fructose, maltose, or dextrose (natural sugars that are also used as commercial sweeteners), it all turns into blood sugar, or glucose. Some alternative practitioners believe that cancer cells rely on a metabolic process that is driven by glucose.
One of the first things to do is stay away from sugary deserts, do not add suar to any food, eat a limited amount of fruit, and drink fruit juice only once or twice a week.
WATER:
Drink distilled water, you can purchase a home water distiller, the distillation process removes all possible carcinogens from your drinking water, a must for anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer.
ALCOHOL:
Alcohol is a carcinogen, and should be avoided at all costs. Having two or three drinks a week increases your risk of developing breast cancer. The same amount of alcohol can double a tumors growth rate, so if you have been diagnosed with breast cancer Don't Drink.
TOBACCO:
Avoid smoke yours and others, approximately 30 percent of all cancers are caused by inhaling tobacco smoke, which is loaded with carcinogens. It creates free radicals, unstable molecules that can damage DNA and trigger cancer. It burns up antioxidants vitamins such as vitamin C, which are cancer protective. And it erodes your immune system, your main defense against cancer.
If you are a smoker and you've been diagnosed with breast cancer, Quit. If you smoke, your cancer is more likely to spread. Avoid second hand smoke as well.
EXERCISE:
Cancer thrives in and oxygen poor enviroment. Mild aerobic exercise fights cancer by stimulating the immune system and oxygenating the body.
Walking is the most inexpensive and convenient form of aerobic exercise. Breast cancer patients who are over 40 or don't exercise regularly you should be checked for cardiovascular risk factors. If you check out as normal, start a walking program, gradually increasing the pace and distance until you are walking briskly for at least 2 miles four times aweek.
STRESS REDUCTION:
Mental stress (a worried, overloaded mind) weakens the immune system. Mental ease (a calm mind) sterengthens the immune system, and a stronger immune system means more resistance to breast cancer.Four Ways to Reduce Stress.
* Take a hot shower. * Listen to calming music. * Pray or meditate, repeating a single thought or process over and over. * Be sexually intimate, either by having intercourse or just hugging and cuddling.
