Is there anyone from a country other than the u.s. that could tell me about your mental health care?

Question: Is there anyone from a country other than the u.s. that could tell me about your mental health care?

Specifically I'm looking for the following information: 1.What country are these questions pertaining too? 2. Does this country have an equivalent of the Baker Act? 3. How does a mentally ill person get committed to a psych facility? 4. How long can they be confined to a psych facility? 5. What are the requirements for discharge? 6. Who pays for the treatment? 7. Are health care services readily available to the mentally ill? 8. What medications are being used? 9. Are there alternative or folk medicine being used? 10. What are the stigmas attached to mental disorders? 11. How are people with mental health disorders treated? 12. What role does a family play in an individual's care? 13. How would you describe the care received by the mentally ill? If any one can help, it's very much appreciated! (It's okay if there are some unanswered) Thank you, Kaitlin

I have been to India, and I have a friend there who is regularly treated for mental illness, and her treatment is as good, if not better than the same problems here. There is no stigma, because no one talks about their health care to those they don't know. In India, you cannot be involuntarily committed, if you are committed it is because you want the help and you get it. You and your doctor decide when you are ready for discharge. Health care is a part of psychiatric care there. They use the same medications we use, but usually in lesser amounts. I would describe the care recieved by the mentally ill as equal if not superior to ours, at least in Mumbai India it is.
